WHEELS ON FIRE - CANCER CRUSADERS

The Wheels on Fire Cancer Crusaders team is a ministry outreach of Beaver Dam Community Church and has been supporting cancer patients for nearly 20 years.  When a patient is going through the treatments and struggles of cancer, they often find that expenses begin to be overwhelming and sometimes they have trouble meeting their basic living expenses.  It is our mission to raise money so that life will be just a little easier during a very difficult time.  The funds we raise are divided between the Cancer Care Funds of Kosciusko and Fulton Counties.

In 2023, the Wheels on Fire team distributed checks in the amount of $34,000 to both Kosciusko and Fulton County Cancer Care organizations and $2,000 to Kim Waggoner for Project Hope.

Some of the ways we raise funds:

  • There is a Trap Shoot "Clays for Cancer" at the Fulton County Gun Club every year in the Spring.  Don Barker donates all of the proceeds from the day to us.

  • Many of our events focus on food.  We've had food booths at some of the First Friday's in Warsaw as well as Center Lake Concerts in Warsaw.

  • One of our biggest supporters are the Echoes of the Past.   We have partnered with them by having a food booth during several of their events, such as,  their "Tractor Show, Pull and Drive Summerfest" in Claypool.  They will also have their Fall Fest this year on October 11-12.

  • Our biggest fundraising event "Smash Out Cancer" is held in August at the Akron Community Center.  This event has been a little different every year as far as things to do but what we've continued to carry over is the live auction, pie/cake auction, live entertainment and food/drink available for purchase.

  • We have a pancake and sausage breakfast at the Mentone Fire Dept.

  • Other opportunities to serve food as they present themselves throughout the year.

We also have a few ways of raising money that everyone can participate in:

  • We have a Kroger Community Rewards account.  If you shop at Kroger and have a Kroger Plus Shopper's card(the one you scan for discounts/coupons), all you have to do is designate our group as the recipient for rewards through your online account, and then scan your card when you shop.  Kroger gives us a percentage of every transaction.  (go to kroger.com and then select "Community Rewards" under "My Account" (create an account if you don't have one), enter our Organization I.D.:  EK799 (Beaver Dam - Cancer Crusaders).  Your selected organization will be displayed in the Kroger Community Rewards section of your account.  This does not affect your gas rewards or discounts, etc.

  • The Community Project Thrift Store in Rochester gives 30% of the profit off the sale of donated items to the organization/charity of your choice.  All you have to do is take your items to the store and tell them you want the 30% of the sale(s) to go to Beaver Dam Church for Wheels on Fire-Cancer Crusaders.  You can see more information regarding the store on their Facebook page.

  • Current Zimmer Biomet team members….Wheels on Fire is an employee matching contribution option. You can request matching contributions through the Giving Center in the employee portal.  Select Beaver Dam Community Church, Registration ID: 92-3743411.  Employees can give through payroll deduction, a one-time donation, or enter an offline donation all through the giving center.  When making a new donation, make sure to Add a Designation, "to support the fundraising efforts of Wheels on Fire".  Then request a matching donation from the Zimmer Biomet Foundation.  Zimmer Biomet will match up to a total of $2500 per employee per year!!

  • We also receive gifts through general donations (cash or check as long as it is clearly marked that it is for Wheels on Fire) and memorials.  When a loved one passes, families can designate Wheels on Fire as the recipient of money given in their memory.

  • We are now accepting online donations (below).  One link is for General Donations, the other is for Memorial Gift Donations.  Either link works, we just ask for more information for memorial gifts (who it is in memoriam of and an address for us and the family to send a thank-you).
